The BizCamp offers a fun, intensive “mini-MBA” style course in entrepreneurship where youth participants learn the basics of putting together a business plan while also developing valuable academic and life skills.  Taught by charismatic, experienced teachers who often have small busienss backgrounds themselves, students are lead through the principles of business creation and operation during a one-week period.

 The BizCamp offers the following:

~One week of instruction on how to start and operate a business
 
~BizCamp ages 14-17
 
~Business plan competition at the end of Camp where participants can win seed capital for their  ideas
 
~Field trips to operating businesses and/or other relevant locations
 
~Business plan coaching by adult volunteers experienced in business

 Our BEC BOOST is now open to all legal California residents who have the drive, desire and determination to start a business. 

 The competition will award one $5,000 prize in each of the following age categories: 14 to 17 years of age; 18 to 27 years of age and 28 years of age and older.

We will offer to the entire appellation, and supporting counties, a comprehensive seminar that includes:

        collection, Export Import Bank of the U.S. credit insurance and other banking nuance

 The Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Kern Community College District is responding to industry’s request for information and know-how on increasing international exports.  The seminar is for those interested in exploring the world of international business and hearing first-hand a market update on Singapore’s Oil & Gas Industry needs.  In collaboration with the U.S. Commercial Service, the BEC is hosting a very unique seminar for the Oil & Gas industry.  The event is designed to strengthen exising exporting programs to Asia; assist with collaboration between industry, education, and government; and expand opportunities that stimulate commerce, increase revenues and promote job creation.

We are very fortunate Chan Y K, Industry Specialist with the U.S. Commerical Service, has included Bakersfield on his U.S. travel itinerary.  Hosted by the Kern Community College District’s Business & Entrepreneurship Center, attendees will hear first-hand what is driving the demand for Singapore oil & gas products that cater to industries that deal in chemical engineering systems, LNG technology and equipment, oil & gas processing equipment and pipeline engineering.

Singapore has not only become one of the most important shipping centers in Asia and one of the world’s top three oil trading (US$400 billion in 2009) and refining hubs but the country is also the market leader for floating production, storage and offloading (FPSOs) conversions and jack-up rigs as well as the regional HQ for most of the key players in the industry.  Underground caverns for oil storage and a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal are also being built to enhance Singapore’s position as the premier regional center for the oil & gas industry.

Kern BEC will sponsor Pitch it!, a business concept video competition at The Gas Company Challenge, March 7, 2012.  Pitch it! is a 90-second video promoting a business product or service.  Unlike business plan presentations where constants need to be at the event to present, Pitch it! gives any high school or community college student or club a virtual opportunity to pitch their business product or service.  That’s right … submit your business concept, make a 90-second video promoting your product or service, upload and market your video via YouTube.  GET STARTED TODAY … entry deadline is March 5th (yes…deadline has been extended until mid-night Monday, March 5th!)

Pitch it! Entry Requirements

1.  All Pitch it! contestants must be a California high school or Community College student.

2.  All Pitch it! entries and video pitch concept questions must be submitted by March 5, 2012.

3.  If invited to participate in Pitch it!, upload a 60-90 second elevator pitch to your YouTube account and

      send the link to GoBECCV@gmail.com by March 5, 2012.  But remember, earlier the

      better so faculty, friends and family can view your video.  Judging process is based on the business

      concept, video quality and content, and YouTube views.

4.  Each entrant must grant the Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Kern Community College District

      (Kern BEC) the right to use and display contestants pictures and ideas for BEC marketing purposes.

5.  Each entrant is limited to one entry.

6.  By registering you are opting-in to receive future YEP related materials.

7.  Contestants cannot enter or copy an existing business.  In addition individual/teams’ concepts must

      represent their original work.  Individuals/teams members must sign a certification to this effect.

OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES

Pitch it!  This competition is sponsored by the Business & Entrepreneurship Center and Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP).  Please read the Competition Rules and electronically sign this understanding (during online registration).

TERM:  The Competition will be March 5, 2012 during The Gas Company Challenge, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

PRIZES:  Grand Prize – $300 cash for your team; $200 for fan favorite (YouTube voting); $100 honorable mention

REGISTERING FOR COMPETITION:  Register to enter Pitch it!  Contestants must also be register for The Gas Company Challenge.  To continue eligibility in competition, all deadlines as outlined in Deadlines and Dates must be met.  You must agree (“opt-in”) to receive email from BEC.

ELIGIBILITY:  Competition is open to all California high school and Community College students.  You may only enter this competition once per year.  Your business concept plan MAY NOT BE a currently existing business.  Those under the age of 18 must have parental permission to enter the competition.  By entering this BEC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition you represent to BEC that you are either at least 18 years of age or have consent from a parent/legal guardian.  Employees of BEC and its immediate families and members of their households are not eligible to participate in this BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition.  By registering to win the prize, the winners grant BEC permission to use his/her name (including screen name) and likeness for advertising and future promotion purposes without additional compensation.  Unaccepted prizes may not be awarded.  The BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition is subject to these complete and official rules.

DEADLINES AND DATES:

SELECTION OF WINNERS:  Winners will be selected by the panel of judges selected by BEC on the day of the competition.  The winners must be present to win.  BEC reserves the right to modify scheduling of the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition without prior notice.  If the judges determine in their sole discretion that there is any suspected or actual electronic tampering with the entries that may compromise the integrity of the competition, the judges reserve the right to void the entries at issue, and/or terminate the competition.  BEC may require winners to provide proof that they are the authorized account holders of the email addresses used to enter the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition.  “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet service provider, or organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the email address.  Any winner who does not comply with the official rules will be disqualified and an alternate winner will be selected.

NOTIFICATION:  Prize winners will be notified during the award ceremony at the conclusion of the BEC hosted Extreme Entrepreneur Tour.  All winners of the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition are to be posted on the BEC YEP website 72 hours after the competition ends.  Email BEC at terri.hicks@kccd.edu.  BEC is under no obligation to notify finalists by any means other than e-mail.  BEC is not responsible for notifications that are misdirected or not received because of email addresses or mailing addresses that are no longer correct.  If a potential finalist cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been made during one business day from the first notification attempt, such person may be disqualified, with an alternate winner selected.

REDEMPTION:  BEC will deliver the prizes as previously stated.  Each prize will be awarded to the appropriate winners within 14 business days after completing appropriate documentation at the BEC office.  Prizes are non-transferable and no substitutions are allowed except by permission of BEC.

CONDITIONS:  By participating in the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition, you agree to release and hold BEC and its directors, officers, employees and agents, and all prize suppliers harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, and actions of any kind in connection with the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition or any product purchased, or resulting from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize, including, without limitation, personal injuries, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy, whether suffered by you or a third party. This BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition is void wherever prohibited or restricted by law and is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of BEC and waive any right to claim ambiguity in the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition or these official rules. All decisions regarding the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition, including, but not limited to, selecting winners, will be made by BEC, whose decisions shall be final. Winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state and local taxes.

LIST OF PRIZE WINNERS:  For a written list of prize winners, mail a self-addressed stamped envelope, accompanied by a hand-printed request indicating “Winners List”, to BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition, Business & Entrepreneurship Center at Kern Community College District, 2100 Chester Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301. BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition is governed by U.S. law. The names, logos, and icons identifying the products and services of BEC are proprietary marks of BEC. BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition rules are subject to change at any time without notice.

BEC is not responsible for errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects in part or whole, delays in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for any technical or non-technical network, telephonic, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate or partial transmission of or failure to receive entry information by BEC on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any web site or any combination thereof. DISQUALIFICATION:  All of your entries in this and all other competitions sponsored by BEC in the past, present, or future, will be automatically disqualified without notice or recourse if you promote the competition through unsolicited commercial email, multiple repetitive postings to UseNet Newsgroups or even one posting to inappropriate UseNet Newsgroups.

All of your entries will be disqualified, at the sole discretion of BEC, if you attempt (i) to enter the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition through any means other than as described in these official rules; or (ii) to disrupt the BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition, circumvent the terms and conditions of these official rules, or in any way tamper with BEC YEP Elevator Pitch Competition.
